Delta Music Experience invites you to experience Doug
MacLeod, the Story Telling Bluesman
|
October
24th For
more details and reservation information click
here.
We're
so happy to have Doug in a return engagement
House Concert.
Doug MacLeod is one of the last
remaining bluesmen who learned from the old
masters, lived the music, survived the life
and carries forward that valuable tradition.
Within the blues world, MacLeod is
known for his superb songwriting, guitar wizardry,
warm soulful vocals, wit and unforgettable live
performances. At the heart of this is his knack
for storytelling, bringing characters-from the
faceless to the legendary-to strikingly real
life.
As a youth, MacLeod overcame inexpressible abuse
and a crippling stutter by turning to the blues.
"I had it really rough," he says.
"I don't remember much, but the product
of that was a terrible stutter. Honestly, I
couldn't speak two words. I felt that I wasn't
gonna be able to speak. And then I picked up
the guitar, and I just tried to sing-and this
voice came out. I really haven't stuttered much
since."Healing music indeed!"
Your
entry contribution of $25.00 goes to the
Wurlitzer Manor Fund for Music and the Arts.
This is a component fund of the Greater Tacoma
Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable
organization. Past recipients of grants from
this fund include local and regional blues societies,
the Memphis - based Blues Foundation, the Chicago
- based Luther Allison Endowment Fund, Port
Townsend Acoustic (Country Blues) Workshop &
Festival, Waterfront Blues Festival, Winthrop
Rhythm & Blues Festival, and the Pacific
Northwest Blues in the Schools program.
